After WW2 the nations of the world decided that rules had to be put in place to stop wars for territorial gain. Those rules prohibit a nation from defeating another and then claiming their land. Israel is in violation of those rules, by occupying Palestinian land in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

People like to think society is more civilized, and past those harsh realities. but if that were true, countries wouldn't be at war for such petty reasons.

For animals, the strongest or the smartest control and lead. Why should people be any different? Morality and who is "right" doesn't even factor in, and shouldn't. This is reality, Some animals will eat their own children if they're starving and can't survive. Morals are a cute concept, but they have no place when it comes to survival, and pull very little weight in this age of reason.

Despite 1,300 years of Muslim Arab rule, Jerusalem was never the capital of an Arab entity. Oddly, the PLO's National Covenant, written in 1964, never mentioned Jerusalem. Only after Israel regained control of the entire city did the PLO "update" its Covenant to include Jerusalem.

Overall, the role of Jerusalem in Islam is best understood as the outcome of political pressure impacting on religious belief.

Mohammed, who founded Islam in 622 CE, was born and raised in present-day Saudi Arabia, he never set foot in Jerusalem.

His connection to the city came years after his death when the Dome of the Rock shrine and the al-Aqsa mosque were built in 688 and 691, respectively, their construction spurred by political and religious rivalries. In 638 CE, the Caliph (or successor to Mohammed) Omar and his invading armies captured Jerusalem from the Byzantine Empire. One reason they wanted to erect a holy structure in Jerusalem was to proclaim Islam's supremacy over Christianity and its most important shrine, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

More important was the power struggle within Islam itself. The Damascus-based Umayyad Caliphs who controlled Jerusalem wanted to establish an alternative holy site if their rivals blocked access to Mecca. That was important because the Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca was (and remains today) one of the Five Pillars of Islam. As a result, they built what became known as the Dome of the Rock shrine and the adjacent mosque.

To enhance the prestige of the "substitute Mecca," the Jerusalem mosque was named "al-Aqsa." It means "the furthest mosque" in Arabic, but has far broader implications, since it is the same phrase used in a key passage of the Quran called "The Night Journey." In that passage, Mohammed arrives at "al-Aqsa" on a winged steed accompanied by the Archangel Gabriel, from there they ascend into heaven for a divine meeting with Allah, after which Mohammed returns to Mecca. Naming the Jerusalem mosque "al-Aqsa" was an attempt to say the Dome of the Rock was the very spot from which Mohammed ascended to heaven, thus tying Jerusalem to divine revelation in Islamic belief. The problem however is, that Mohammed died in the year 632, nearly 50 years before the first construction of the "al-Aqsa" Mosque was completed.

Jerusalem never replaced the importance of Mecca in the Islamic world. When the Umayyad dynasty fell in 750, Jerusalem also fell into near obscurity for 350 years, until the Crusades. During those centuries, many Islamic sites in Jerusalem fell into disrepair and in 1016 the Dome of the Rock collapsed.

Still, for 1,300 years, various Islamic dynasties (Syrian, Egyptian, and Turkish) continued to govern Jerusalem as part of their overall control of the Land of Israel, disrupted only by the Crusaders. What is amazing is that over that period, not one Islamic dynasty ever made Jerusalem its capital. By the 19th century, Jerusalem had been so neglected by Islamic rulers that several prominent Western writers who visited Jerusalem were moved to write about it. French writer Gustav Flaubert, for example, found "ruins everywhere" during his visit in 1850 when it was part of the Turkish Empire (1516-1917). Seventeen years later Mark Twain wrote that Jerusalem had "become a pauper village."

Indeed, Jerusalem's importance in the Islamic world only appears evident when non-Muslims (including the Crusaders, the British, and the Jews) control or capture the city. Only at those points in history did Islamic leaders claim Jerusalem as their third most holy city after Mecca and Medina. That was again the case in 1967, when Israel captured Jordanian-controlled East Jerusalem (and the Old City) during the 1967 Six-Day War.

He was attempting to sell US secrets to Israel, but got caught because the US was building a case against him for tax evasion and monitored his attempts to sell his secrets to Israel. He sure knew who to go to in order to sell them.

I remember hearing about this guy. Probably at least a year or so ago. Good that they finally sentenced him. Happened around 09'

Hopefully, after he serves his time and is released, he can do something productive with his life. If he was working on stuff for NASA (which i could only assume pays well) and was willing to sell out his country, he most certainly deserves to do his 13 years.

That being said... what Pollard did was wrong also... but why is he serving his 26th or 27th year on a Life Sentence, when this guy gets 13 years, in addition to the information i posted above.

Makes me wonder if Pollard has been kept to be used as a "barganing chip?" (which is also wrong - if you compare the amount of time served by others for similar crimes)

What part of 1,500 Americans dying as a direct result of Jonahathan Pollard's treason do you not understand? He should have actually been executed for this!

Pollard gave US Secrets, and exposed operatives to israel who then gave this info to the USSR!

Let's also not forget about Richard Pearl (Member of PNAC, Project for a New American Century but actually "israeli firsters") who was kicked out of the US Government years ago for spying for AIPAC (israeli gov. org.), yet was allowed back in during dubya, or "Scooter" Libby who was pardoned by dubya!

So help me understand this - are you saying that all Jewish people in the American military are disloyal to the US?

If so... logistically that is a faulty generalization.

Even Weinberger stated that the case was blown way out of proportion. There was a memorandum of understanding between the US and Israel in 83' that stated that the US would share certain info with Israel.

The information being withheld from Israel included Syrian, Iraqi, Libyan and Iranian nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare capabilities - being developed for use against Israel. It also included information on ballistic missile development by these countries and information on planned terrorist attacks against Israeli civilian targets.

Pollard is a US barganing chip against Israel... that's it, that's all. The only problem is that for the most part, Israel has forgotten he exists.

No, I am a honorably/medically discharged (physically injured in the line of duty) US Army Soldier that lost his faith in the US Government when it actually committed provable crimes (still have the documentation) against me as a Disabled Veteran needing the health care, benefits, etc. I was promised!

Ever wonder why so many Vets are committing suicide now-a-days, or why so many are in prisons, etc. from the past?

Ever been called a "baby killer", or afraid to even wear your military uniform while on leave in a US City? I have the latter, and was even assaulted because of wearing my uniform on leave, IN THE US!

After the government screwed me I started questioning everything, and found a "Rabbit Hole" of lies, and deceit against The American People by our so called government! If you dared open your mind to other possibilities maybe you would see these also!

Just so you know, I would still give my life for the US Nation, under the US Consitution, but will not give my life, or my family and friends lives for a false alli, and the false government we have, and I am not alone in this thinking by far! Still think your vote actually counts?

In-case you haven't noticed the US Constitution DOES NOT actually exist anymore with treasonous acts such as the UN-patriot act, The 2012 NDAA, etc.

UN-patriot act actually written BEFORE 9/11 by Micheal Chertoff, and made law by anthrax scares sent to Government Officials, etc. but was actually produced in the USA!

2012 NDAA gives the Prez/Gov the right to arrest, and hold any US Citizen without showing any evidence, trial, or even right to an attorney for possibly giving aid to terrorists or dissent. It also violates posse-coma-totis (misspelled), or lets the government put US troops on the streets of US Cities and arrest citizens!

Let's also not forget about the 20 thousand Drones being deployed over US Skies to directly spy on Americans!

Lets' also not forget about the theft of trillions of Taxpayer Dollars that NOTHING is being done about even-though we know who did it!

Then there's the lies of 9/11! And you know when it first happened I was also like let's get them over there before they come here, all that gung ho crap, but I have since learned better!

I looked at the facts, at who was actually arrested that day and then queitly released, who profitted from it, WTC Building 7's CONTROLLED DEMOLITION, etc., etc. All provable facts that the Kosher Media WILL NOT report about, and our so called elected officials WILL NOT do anything about, yet they they know about them, and where it leads! Israel probably wishes it could give back the west bank to Jordan. The Palestinians didn't have any home land. Jordan owned the west bank until they lost it after attacking Israel, along with Iraq, Syrian and Egypt. they all got their butts kicked. Syria lost the Golan Heights and Jordan lost the West Bank. Americans would not give back our country to England. Nor Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and California to Mexico. They lost the war and America does not owe them anything. Israel won these lands in a war. Why should they have to give them back? Jordan does not want back the West Bank. Israel should clear all of the west bank and gaza strip and push these beggars into Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Both of these countries will not take the Palestinians. Nobody wants the Palestinians in their country. Probably 60% of the Syrian opposition forces are Palestinians. Hezbollah has turned Lebanon into a slum battle ground and demands equal rights with the Lebanese when they are refugees. Israel is doing the Arab world a favor by taking in the Palestinians. Of course no good deed goes unpunished. The Palestinians now claim all of Israel as their home land and are crushing the Israeli economy with their demands for support and refuse to enter into talks with the Israeli's unless all their demands are met first. To hell with them. If they really wanted to have a "home land' and wanted to rule it themselves, they would have sit down and got it done a long time ago. They want the land, the Capital and financial support or they will agree to nothing at all. FINE!!! Give them nothing and kick them out of Israel. Other than Palestinian refugess in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and of course teh Iranians and some Radical Islamic Clerics, there will be no others marching to Jerusalem.
