The Syrian government says the country is being attacked by extremists but some civilians say the only armed gangs in the city are the security forces. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

NBC News' Ayman Mohyeldin is one of the few Western reporters currently in Damascus, Syria. Earlier today he answered reader questions about the ongoing uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's regime there.

How can we be sure Assad wont have his troops lob a mortar round at him like what happened to another reporter recently?.

After the Russians made a fool of Carter over Afghanistan in 1978, the U.S. smuggled tons of munitions into Afghanistan. The same thing will happen soon or is already happening. Remember Syria has very porous borders.

Why do we care what happens to Syria ? They have never been friends of the US, why don't we leave this to the Arab States to handle ?

This is a concern our political leaders need to keep their noses out of. Let the Syrian people determine their own fate without interference from outsiders!

Bullets trump ballots every time. As Stalin said: "LET THE PEOPLE VOTE, WE ARE THE ONES WHO DO THE COUNTING!'

Things are changing! People in the Middle East are standing up to despots like never before and hopefully they will learn from

history and in Syria not replace Assad with another despot. My heart goes out to them. God bless!

Syria is a World problem. Hence we have what is called United Nations ( Ha! Not really united, they just call themselves that). Most of the time the UN is gutless on most World problems and WE > or NATO have to clean up the mess. That means more of our Tax dollars being spent on these World problems while most of the rest of the UN nations sit on their butts and complain. The billions upon billions spent on this organization which half the countries hate the USA even if we give them aid or not. I for one do not want one of my tax dollars going to these rouge countries such as N. Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or countries outside of NATO nations or close ties to the USA. Otherwise keep the money home!

Assad was elected in 2000, unopposed for re-election in 2007, and as Jesus said, in effect, to Paul on the road

to Damascus, "If you oppose Me, you cannot win, and it will be painful if you try." Just a matter of time

before this brutal dictator is kaput and the people in Syria will be free. And it's about time! He may not be

there when you want Him, but Jesus is always on time

Sez you:o) Freud asked that immortal question: What does a woman want? Well, I can't speak

for all women, but I want my cake and eat it too. In fact, I ate Carrot Cake yesterday at a GE Luncheon

so I got what I want, and I loved it. What is that old saying: Every thing I love is either immoral or

                        fattening:o)
