Council praises Mubarak and protesters

A representative of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces has read a statement on state TV acknowledging former President Hosni Mubarak's resignation and "saluting" him for "what he has presented and for his heroic service during wartime."

In an apparent reference to the hundreds of thousands of Egyptians who have demonstrated for change since Jan. 25, the statement said the council "is also saluting the spirit of those who were martyred, those who have sacrificed their souls for the freedom and the security of their country."

The statement said the military can't take the place of a "legitimate" government and that the council will announce steps to "introduce the changes Egyptians want."

Resolution in Egypt: What would the Taoist astrologers say?

Why did the Egyptian stand-off between the Mubarak regime and the protesters in Tahrir Square end peacefully? The Taoist astrologers may attribute it to the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Rabbit, which brought the Year of the Tiger to a close on February 3rd.

According to Chinese tradition, the Rabbit brings a year in which you can catch your breath and calm your nerves. It is a time for negotiation. Don't try to force issues, because if you do you will ultimately fail. To gain the greatest benefits from this time, focus on home, family, security, diplomacy, and your relationships with women and children. Make it a goal to create a safe, peaceful lifestyle, so you will be able to calmly deal with any problem that may arise.

The Tiger is the third sign in the cycle of the Chinese Zodiac; it is a sign of courage. This fearless and fiery fighter is revered by the ancient Chinese as the sign that wards off the three main disasters of a household: fire, thieves and ghosts. Another attribute of the Tiger is his incredible bravery, evidenced in his willingness to engage in battle or his undying courage. The Tiger can be known to jump to conclusions or to act too quickly without weighing the options or understanding the consequences.

The Taoist astrologers might say that the fearlessness and courage of the Tiger year brought the demonstrators into the square on January 25th and bolstered their courage and determination. But with the beginning of year of the Rabbit, on February 3rd, their goals were ultimately reached by peaceful actions and diplomacy.

I'm no numerologist but the way I often write a date is with the day first, in arabic numerals, the month in roman numerals and the last two digits of the year in arabic numerals. Hence, 11 February 2011 can be written thus:

    11 - II - 11.

Now, believe it or not, but by pure coincidence when I snapped a picture of my TV screen upon hearing that Mubarak had stepped down, it just so happened to be eleven o'clock and 11 minutes. Thus the picture was taken at this moment in time:

    11 - II - 11, 11 : 11

The time 11 : 11 is pretty dim on the photo but it is still visible on the numeric clock that is displayed on the TV digital converter.

Being a "new user" of the Newsvine community, I am not allowed to post the photograph I mentioned but I will try to pass it on to the managers of this site who will be able to make it available to all if they see fit.

Hopefully this will show the Arab world that it is possible to have a democratic government where everybody can participate and have a voice without the need for violence.

The Egyptians as a whole will have to hold themselves for their own fate and destiny.

The military's Supreme Council can't take the place of a "legitimate" government hence will very soon whether it likes it or not have to announce steps to "introduce the changes Egyptians want."

Everything needs to be done in a democratic and in a conducive manner more suitable to the Egyptians and not to suit the whims and fancies of the American Allies!
