Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-N.Y., chairman of the Foreign Affairs subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, called Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's address "a sadistic tease" and predicted that demonstrations could turn violent.
"He just lit the final fuse," Ackerman said in an interview on MSNBC TV. "And now I think the situation is going to verge on the explosive over the next 24 hours."
Listen to Ackerman's comments:
Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-N.Y., expresses shock over President Hosni Mubarak's speech, calling it a "sadistic" move.

i fear he's right, but I pray he is wrong.
GREAT THOUGHT !!!!!!!!!! That was exatly what i was thinking :_) THANK YOU ; I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS LIKE THAT.
Those who cling too much to power shall watch in horror one day as it turns them inside out. This much is apparent.
The demons shall enjoy feasting on Mubarak/Suleiman's sanity, as they realize that their power earned them a one-way ticket to purgatory!
Mubarack does not seem to get IT, or maybe he does. He is not wanted any more. THE PEOPLE WANT SOMEONE THEY HAVE VOTED IN. THEY WANT FREEDOM AND THE RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION. He is just afraid of rejection and loss of power. He is pathetic!
he's the embodiment of a true egomaniacal dictator wearing, as they all do, blinders
I Agree!!! They all end up in the ditch before it is all over.
Yep
Just like when Nixon hung on saying, "I am not a crook." Just like when they kidnapped Gorbachev because perestroika was going "too fast". It's just a matter of time. A little more confusion and then history will have its inevitable way.
My heart goes out to the Egyptian people. May they find PEACE AND PROSPERITY without that soul-less Mubarek or his minions. The divinity now on Earth has stopped any violence so far. May it prevail and may the LIGHT shine in where the blackness has been. May the US realize that it is not their battle and keep their bodies and souls at home and know it could soon be here. They are no saints either!
I still don't know what the hell is going on! Who's lined up to take egypt to the promise land, anyway? moses? It's obvious that no one has stepped up. Lets just riot and see what happens? What is the opposition offering? Freedom? Freedom to do what? Peace and Prosperity? How does that happen? You live in the middle of a desert. Where is all the opportunity? You hear a lot about "Change and Hope", then realize it just another @!$%# wanting a free ride on the backs of the people.
It's time for Mubarack to step down gracefully. It's obvious the people of Egypt no longer support Mubarack. It's also time for the US leadership to butt it's nose out of Egyptian affairs.
I dont really know if that (your) prediction is positive and if it helps the situation. More violence ? more damage ???? NO! The situation in Egipt should calm down, the protesters did a lot of damage as it is, there is no need for more..... Violence and damage does not help the nation, does not help the country - it just makes things more difficult and finally - HOW MUCH DOES THE DAMAGE COST ? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REBUILD BROKEN WINDOWS AND "BURNED DOWN" OBJECTS AND CARS ???????? I think that the president allready told his people that he will "step down" from the "throne" , people should believe him and give him a chance to "HELP" in the situation ( IT CANT GET ANY WORSE ). A person with his knowledge can help "with the transfer of power" as the new goverment is being established. Let us hope for a positive outcome, let us hope for peace and peaceful talks, and finally let us hope for non-violent outcomes.
A peaceful mind from Europe......................
You've apparently not been watching huh? The anti government demonstrators, (anti Mubarak) have been almost ALL peaceful, until the PRO Mubarak people came in last week, along with the police, and killed people. The cost of a window or a car is nothing to the price of freedom for these people, and it makes sense and we, should embrace their personal sacrifices, anger and frustrations to get those freedoms, not pretend we should let them be fed more lies over and over. Leaving a Mubarak in office a day longer to cry wolf with yet another lie or deception to the people is insane. NO more second chances....he's had 30 YEARS of them. The current VP, if backed by the Army, which is highly respected by the people, could have a very quick and positive outcome. More of the status quo won't. Btw...I voted up your comment by mistake
In the United States we know all to well the outcome of demonstrations like the one in Egypt. Remember the civil rights movement of the 1960's. I don't know how much it will cost to replace or rebuild the country of Egypt. HOW MUCH IS YOUR FREEDOM TO LIVE FREE, VOTE FOR WHO YOU WANT IN OFFICE OR SPEAK YOUR MIND WORTH TO YOU?
You Know, may be he.... is MABUS. hoSni MUBArak. He won't leave until he upsets the whole middle east area, and then we have WWIII. OMG!!!!!
@LATERZMAN: The problem with your method is that we don't know if Mubarak and Suleiman are sour apples; which if they are, means one thing: Mass Genocide. Mubarak will not stop until every last protester dies, and then he shall build a mound of their bodies, saying: "I am King, @!$%#s. Bow before me!"
Note: I'm not even certain that will go down, but given how much of a dick those two are, if the Egyptians leave now, it's not going to end well.
By Mubarak refusing to step down with so much anger and resentment towards him by his own people...as we say here in the South...he just sh!t his own nest. If he wants to much to stay and be buried in Egypt, it's probably being arranged already. The Egyptians wanted a peaceful end, but Mubarak now, just needs to go, regardless of how
)es, of course it will cause violence. it already has! he's still calling the shots! the protesters arent stupid .
Emphasis on "shots" if you don't mind me saying. And I'm being literal with that. Forget Mubarak, Suleiman's new 2011 Egyptian Holocaust will shake the roots of the world!
And then the Prime Islamic Alliance, led by Divine Master Osama Bin Laden, will strike us down for having started this whole mess, and then they will say "So begins the judgement. So begins World War III. *Islam* will reign supreme"
Note: This depends on how angry everyone (Egyptians included) makes Suleiman and the Middle East. One thing I can say though, if this fails, we're on the list of "targets to nuke" by the Middle East.
